Tyler participates in global celebration of making music on the longest day of the year.

Tyler, Texas (6/11/2024)— The Tyler Music Friendly Advisory Board through Visit Tyler joins the international Make Music Day celebration on Friday, June 21, 2024. Make Music Day is a one-day event where FREE, live musical performances, opportunities to make music and other musical events take place around the world on the longest day of the year. Musical festivities in Tyler, are part of a global celebration of music making in over 1,000 cities inspired by France’s te de la Musique.

The Tyler Music Friendly Advisory Board, a board created when Visit Tyler sought the Music Friendly Community designation from the Texas Music Office, invites everyone from professional musicians to people who have never picked up an instrument to join in the global music celebration by attending local music events or creating your own by making music across the city in celebration FREE of charge to the public.

According to Carleen Dark-Bays, Chair of the Tyler Music Friendly Advisory Board, “We are excited to introduce Make Music Day to the singers, musicians, and residents of Tyler! It is a beautiful opportunity to make our city sound as beautiful as it looks by filling our streets, parks, shops, and sidewalks with the joyful sounds of music. As an official Texas Music Friendly community, our participation in Make Music Day is an exciting opportunity to showcase the hundreds, even thousands, of talented singers and musicians that call Tyler home. As we encourage all our musical Tylerites to get out and perform, we also invite everyone in town to take advantage of the longest day of the year by getting out to enjoy great music and support our local talent.”

Music has been shown to strengthen social connectivity, reduce stress, lower blood pressure, stimulate memory, and is integral to a well-rounded, enjoyable life. By participating in Make Music Day, the Tyler Music Friendly Advisory Board and the City of Tyler encourages every form of music making.

National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) members and partners from coast to coast, including Tyler, will join in their communities’ celebrations of Make Music Day. June 21 is the perfect day to check out a local music store for some gear or to come together and play – whether it’s for the first time or the thousandth.

Visit Tyler encourages the public to share their FREE music events on June 21 on their calendar https://www.visittyler.com/p/events.
